Medic Malawi
Founder: Registered Charity No: 1088126 Medic Malawi is a Christian charity established in 1997. It was registered with the Charity Commission in 2001, and depends entirely on donations. Every penny donated goes to Malawi – all administrative costs are donated by volunteers. Medic Malawi built and runs a small hospital in Mtunthama, in the Central Region of Malawi, with OPD, Maternity, in-patient facilities, Under-5 Clinics, Mobile Clinics, Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit, Health Education Programmes, HIV/AIDS Testing & Counselling Unit and a Dental Unit. In addition, it organises Feeding Programmes during times of food shortage. Medic Malawi has built an orphanage (currently with 40 orphans) helps with the care of orphans in the community, and supports a Kindergarten, a Primary School, a Secondary School. Salaries of Hospital Staff, drugs, medicines and consumables require a minimum of £2500 a month. The Under-5 Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit costs an average of £1000 a month to run. To complete the equipping of the Operating Theatre a further £20,000 is needed. |
