Founder: Carole Bowles MBERegistered Charity No: 299789 The Woodside Trust was formed in 1977, under the name of The Thornbury Animal Group, by a group of like-minded people, headed by Carole Bowles MBE, who were dismayed by the amount of animals having to be destroyed in the area. Things started off slowly with Carole piloting a Spay and Neutering scheme, raising funds to finance this and rescue animals. In the first year two dogs, a litter of puppies and two litters of kittens were rehoused, with another thirty animals being neutered to prevent unwanted litters. The welfare work continued to grow with local RSPCA inspectors asking for help with the rehoming of animals taken away from bad owners. Due to the increase in welfare work, in 1982 Carole and husband Dave sold their boarding premises and moved to our what is now Woodside. With the move came the change of name and registering of the group as a charity. Woodside Animal Welfare Trust was formed. |
